Conference Call with Congressman Joe Wilson
I just got off a conference call with Congressman Joe (your lying Obama) Wilson. This was the second time in less then a week that I have had the privilege to speak to this true American hero.
The call today was on two subjects, National Healthcare and the war in Afghanistan. I was able to ask a couple of questions regarding both areas of interest.
One question regarded the ROE (Rules of Engagement) in Afghanistan and if they had been changed since THE GREAT OBAMA became president. He told us that they had not really been changed, but that a greater emphasis is being place on having the Afghan forces take the lead on fighting in areas considered sensitive for Americans to fight in. An example of this would be if Taliban forces used a mosque to fight from. It is prudent for Afghan forces to enter and engage the enemy instead of Americans, thus showing the local populace a respect for their religion.
One thing that Congressman Wilson was adamant about is the need for THE GREAT OBAMA to heed the request from General McChrystal for more troops. Considering that South Carolina is home to many of the country’s military assets, including a Marine Corp Air Station in his district, he has a good finger on the pulse of the need to support decisions made by military leaders and not political pandering by the president.
I also was able to ask the question, “With the proposed cuts being made in Medicare ($600 billion) as outlined in the ObamaCare bill, how much will be off-loaded on to the individual states”? His answer was, “most of it”. I followed up with the question, “How much for a state like New Jersey, since we have to fill a $10 billion hole in our next state budget”? He could not give me an immediate response (I did not expect it from him), but unlike my own congressman, he directed me to a member of his staff to get the information from. I have contacted her, and she has promised to have that information in my hands in the next few hours. At that time, I will try and calculate exactly how much more New Jersey will have to spend so we can ask our congressmen just how they expect New Jersey to pay for this too!

Richard,
1. General McCrystal’s troop request might make sense if we had a Commander in Chief that had not eschewed “victory” in Afghanistan. Sending more troops in the current context is simply a recipe for disaster. If we had a different Commander in Chief whose stated objective was victory, sending more troops would likely make more sense. But not in the current context. Our troops are just sitting targets right now. They should be brought home as quickly as possible. That is a campaign promise President Obama cannot fulfill quickly enough for me.
2. Regarding Medicare: why would you or any Republican ever complain about spending cuts a Democrat is willing to advocate? If the problem is the mandates foisted on the states when the federal funding disappears, then argue against the mandates – but for heaven’s sake, don’t argue against any cut in Medicare on which a Democrat is willing to agree!

The problem is that they are not cuts, but just a transfer of the payments for service from the federal government to the state government. All of those savings become mandates to the states. No one is cutting anything, but just transfering who cuts the check.
As far as Afghanistan, that the was argument that Joe Wilson was making, don’t question the amount of troops that McCrystal wants, give him what he is asking for. The example of the surge in Iraq is the justification for letting the military decide what they need, not some damn community organizer.
