The Metamorphosis Begins in the Christie Campaign
A few minutes ago I had a look at Chris Christie’s campaign website. I thought something looked different, but it took a few minutes to realize that the section regarding shared family values has been removed. These values were a major issue during the recent Republican primary. Christie was very vocal about these values, as he tried to show that he had converted to a conservative position on subjects like abortion and gay marriage. Considering how thin his political resume was, it allowed him to divert attention about his lack of experience with these new found principles.
Well, it looks like Chris is metamorphosising right in front of our eyes. Instead of running his campaign on solid, conservative, republican principles, the leadership has most likely concluded it would be better for the Christie campaign to move left of center and take a more liberal attitude on these value issues. One has to wonder just how long it will take before the New Jersey GOP leadership decides that it would be better to suck up to the state unions, rather than push the idea of reducing the size of the state bureaucracy. Maybe they will feel that the voters would be more likely to vote for Chris if he would continue to require the “rich” to pay their “fair” share, thus encouraging them to continue their migration out of New Jersey. Might they not conclude that dual office holding is not bad, if you are already holding two or three offices. Then of course, it is only right to take it one step further and continue to allow the practise of part time workers getting full pensions.
The possiblities are endless on what positions can be changed and values can be be compromised. Can we be seeing the start of the metamorphosis of Chris Christie from that of a self-proclaimed conservative into the more normal state of New Jersey GOP leadership, that of the well known RINO? Only time will tell.

Hey we get it…you are not voting for Christie. Why don’t you man up and pick a candidate to support and tell us why that person is so great!!! I am sure whoever it is would love to have the support of a racist. You are a joke!

Still acting like a coward I see. I am going to vote for you. I will just write in, “cowardly stupid idiot”. I am sure the election board will know who you are. By the way, tell me, did your parents have any children that were normal?

June 20th, 2009 at 9:02 pmThe beginning of the end for another GOP candidate for statewide office. I assume this move portends his selection of a liberal choice for LG which will gut any chance he has at being elected.
June 21st, 2009 at 1:31 amWe need to stop concerning ourselves with Chris Christie. He is the nominee and his nomination means Jon Corzine is going to be re elected, by a VERY wide margin. It matters not what Christie says or does not say, acts he commits or does not commit, he is going to lose. And there is nothing we can do about it.
What we can do as Conservatives and even as Republicans if we still choose to is win the Assembly back. There are multiple seats (possibly as many as 18-20) in multiple districts where this can be accomplished. We should NOT in any way waste scarce resources and energy on a campaign that has no shot of success. If we want to save our state and stop John Corzine next year we need a Republican Assembly. Only nine seats everyone! Lets get to work.
June 21st, 2009 at 9:05 amIt says on the website he is pro-life and for marriage between one man and one woman….
Get a life you damn loser, just upset he is not ranting about some crazy religious ideology aren’t you.

Once again another RINO coward shows up. What is wrong, can’t your candidate take some heat about how he is starting to spin now that he is the candidate? Why did he take down his family values section you moron? Instead of ranting about me, why not go ask him and his RINO leadership why they are changing his “conservative” values? Why not ask them what his “plan” is to Save Jersey? You know why you won’t do that? It’s because just like all of the other sheep, you are all a bunch of cowards! You spineless drones make me want to puke!

Buddy, you sum up the problem in a nutshell, start small and rebuild the party back to what it should be. Let’s hope that conservatives throughout the state will heed your advise and follow the path you have laid out.

I agree in principle except that many running to get elected in the Assembly did not run as a conservative. Many embraced Christie as the party’s savior. A number of problems that infect New Jersey could have been eradicated had it not been for votes by some of the incumbents you hope to make the majority.
June 21st, 2009 at 12:51 pmDi Marco,
I agree with you in part. In many cases it was never the conservatism that was in question. It was their judgement in this instance. Plus the level of bullying and political intimidation that came from the so called leadership was at a level I had never seen before.
Many politicians were afraid for their politcal lives and livlihoods if they did not endorse Christie. Neutrality was attacked, much less actually coming out for anyone else.
John Corzine must be stopped next year, Chris Christie is going to be unable to do so. This has nothing to do woth politics anymore, Christie is going to get clobbered in the fall. The best way to put a check on his power will be the Assembly. I have a better chance of holding a local Assembly person accountable then a statewide person in any case.
Like I said we have very scarce resourcses, they should not be wasted on a state wide race we have zero chance of winning.

How many running for a seat in Assembly advocate for a Flat Tax system or equal distribution of income tax funds on a per pupil basis? If they are too ingrained in the current system fight for proposals such as these that will have real benefits for our state, then they are part of the problem.
June 21st, 2009 at 1:14 pmDi Marco,
I am out of ideas and one could say I am moving in the direction of being willing to support a machine Assembly Republican as long as they commit to stopping and defunding COAH. Understand that if Corzine is not stopped this state is finished. This is not doom and gloom but fact. 115,000 cabrini green style projects housing anywhere from 200,000 to 300,000 more liberal government supported zero liability voters will be built. These people will only vote for liberals. This ends the Republican party in this state within two election cycles of the first one of these projects becoming occupied. This must be stopped at any and all costs.
We tried to retake the party a few weeks ago and were unable to do so. We had a few victories, and have some good conservatives in the Assembly as well as candidates running against Democrats. But if we allow everyone to lose in November it is over. There will never be another chance of running someone like Lonegan again. The Carrolls, McCose, Marks, Webers, Villaires, etc will all be gone. New Jersey will become a state of a few very wealthy gated and gaurded communities surrounded by ginat versions of Newark and Camden.
June 21st, 2009 at 1:28 pmWhile I will always vote for the better candidate running and in November that is almost always the Republican, I will only throw my support, both financial and sweat, behind individual candidates that have shown the kind of leadership and ideas that can make government better. Sadly, they are few and far in between.
June 21st, 2009 at 2:07 pmIt’s amazing how candidates always have to move right to win and then they poke the right in the eye when they get the nomination. In the end, even if Christie wins, he will most likely be a one termer because he will not confront the problems as they need to be confronted.
