GOP Unveils Their Energy Plan For America
From my source on Capitol Hill:
In a news conference today on Capitol Hill, House Republicans led by Mike Pence released their response to the Democrats’ energy bill. The Republican bill titled “The American Energy Act” would bring down the costs by using various forms of renewable energy such as nuclear power and by building new refineries in order to up production of gasoline within the United States according to GOP leaders. The bill also sets a goal of constructing 100 nuclear power plants within the United States in the next twenty years “by streamlining a burdensome regulatory process and ensuring the recycling and safe storage of spent nuclear fuel.” according to a press release sent out by Minority Leader John Boehner (R-OH).
While promoting their own plan, House Republicans vigorously attacked Democrats for their support of a cap and trade system to regulated carbon emissions calling the legislation a “job killer.” Congressman Joe Barton said that a cap and trade law would cost Americans: “over $846 billion dollars” in the coming years. He went on to call the Democratic energy plan C.R.A.P. standing for “Continue Ruining America’s Prosperity.” Minority Leader Boehner said the Democratic plan would amount to a national energy tax and claimed: “
The Democrats’ national energy tax will be paid by anyone who drives a car, buys an American-made product, or flips on a light switch. That means a yearly average of $3,100 in higher energy costs for middle-class families – and fewer jobs for American workers.”
At its core the “The American Energy Act” is based on increasing domestic production by exploring American oil shale, drilling in the Artic Coastal Plain and by building nuclear power plants. When asked how 100 new nuclear plants would be built in the next 20 years, the GOP leaders said through competitive “private investment” brought on by contracts offered by the U.S. government and individual states. On the issue of what would happen to nuclear waste, Michigan Congressman Fred Upton commented that reprocessing as well as further construction of nuclear waste dumping sites such as Yucca Mountain would be needed. Upton made an interesting point saying that:
“If an American used nuclear power their entire life, they would produce enough nuclear waste to fill a soda can. If we reprocesses that it would be enough waste to fill a 50 cent piece.”

Good to see the Reps being proactive on this. It’s something the party needs to run on in 2010. And once gas prices spike over $3 again, as they will, then people will be angry again. We need to be in a position to capitalize on that.
June 10th, 2009 at 1:02 pmRight on, Mike and Rich.
The Republicans would do well to look at the way the winds have shifted against Australia’s version of Cap and Trade (known as Emission Trading Scheme legislation), which has gotten bogged down when it was made clear that it would cost the average Australian thousands of dollars every year.
Austalians are not ready to sacrifice their prosperity just yet…and I suspect Americans are not yet ready to do so, either.

Take a look at the Star Ledger today. You are mentioned in the Jersey blogs section! Good work!
June 10th, 2009 at 1:43 pmRepublicans will only win if they provide solutions. I am glad to see that some are actually doing it. It is also good to see they are vigorously attacking the democrats’ misguided plans.
June 10th, 2009 at 1:45 pmThanks for the heads up Richard – you were too modest to mention that you were quoted too!
June 10th, 2009 at 2:54 pmThe GOP should now unveil its foreign policy plan, starting with disbanding NATO and suspending foreign relations with Ukraine until that country 1) closes the Museum of the UIA 2) dismantles all monuments of Ukrainian nationalists 3) apologizes for the genocide perpetrated by the UIA, the OUN and SS-Galizien; 4) stops selling missile components to Russia; 5) stops spying on the West for Russia.
June 10th, 2009 at 3:02 pmThey should also unveil their plan to end all relations with ITALY and Italians.
You know who bigoted and racist I am towards those people!
June 10th, 2009 at 3:14 pmZbigot, you should be ashamed of yourself. Do you at least know what the UIA was?
June 10th, 2009 at 3:39 pmNo, YOU should be be ashamed of yourself, you bigot.
You don’t remember the bigoted things you said about Italians?
June 10th, 2009 at 3:46 pmI remember what he said. He is huge racist and bigot. I wish he would go away forever.
June 10th, 2009 at 3:48 pmZbigniew,
As far as this Italian is concerned, you are always welcome here.
June 10th, 2009 at 4:57 pmGood for you Di Marco…you show your true colors as an apologist for a pure bigot.
June 10th, 2009 at 5:19 pmI am not apologizing for him. Many people post here things that I do not agree with. I do not feel they should be bullied into silence.
Unlike many on the left, I understand that we have a First Amendment in the United States of America.
June 10th, 2009 at 5:24 pmThanks, Di Marco. As for Zbigot, since you don’t know what the UIA was, you should put up or shut up.
June 11th, 2009 at 1:20 amUkranian Insurgent Army….and Zbiggy, why should we care about a museum in another country? Is it part of our national security to care? I don’t think so. Especially since you don’t care about our courts and their rulings. Kind of dumb, don’t you think?
And DiMarco, as an Italian American, I take exception to your apologist attitude hiding behind our first amendment. Especially since you feel that illegal immigrants should not be allowed to take full advantage of OUR rights as citizens, then it should certainly extend to little twerps like Zbiggy, who spew their hateful rhetoric on this site. He should not be afforded the right of freedom of speech since he’s neither a citizen of this country, nor even a nice human being. But, then again, there is always the double standard for conservatives.
June 11th, 2009 at 9:44 amAmbrosia:
Do you believe the terrorists in Guantanomo are entitled to constitutional protections? They are certainly not citizens of this country – perhaps you think they are nice human beings?
June 11th, 2009 at 9:48 amRick,
I am neither condoning nor apologizing for Zbigniew comments. I believe a free exchange of thought is critical to the advancement of a society. If that thought has merit, it will be advanced. If not, it will wither and die out.
Lastly, having broken our laws, illegal immigrants should be treated as any other criminal. Treating the law breakers the same as the law abiders makes a mockery of the latter and our laws.
If it makes you feel better, should Mr. Mazurak illegally immigrate here, I will call for his expulsion, too.
June 11th, 2009 at 10:35 amDi Marco:
Calling Italians Wops and Italy Wopland is critical in the advancement of our society?
June 11th, 2009 at 10:51 amVic,
Why does it bother you? Let it go.
Silencing people that do not agree with us is detrimental.
June 11th, 2009 at 11:06 amGlad to hear you condone bigotry Di Marco.
June 11th, 2009 at 11:58 am“Ukranian Insurgent Army – and Zbiggy, why should we care about a museum in another country? Is it part of our national security to care?”
Yes, because 1) your own president wants to make Ukraine a NATO member despite the fact that Ukraine doesn’t deserve to be; 2) if the US (or any other country for that matter) will condone UIA glorificators like Yushchenko and his cronies, then the crimes of the UIA will be perpetrated again by Ukrainian nationalists. But given that you’re an elementary school student, I don’t think you’ve ever heard of the UIA’s crimes.
Tomorrow (i.e. on Monday) come back to whatever elementary school you attend, stop drawing ships in your notebook, and start learning history.
June 14th, 2009 at 3:28 pmyour site is very great!!!
