Defending the American Dream Summit 2009

by: Sharon Soon | May 31

Just three days before New Jersey’s primary election, I’m witnessing conservatives hard at work all over the state. In the midst of a crazy day, here are a few highlights I managed to catch from Americans for Prosperity’s Defending the American Dream Summit, which featured our own Michael Illions as a panelist for the “New Jersey Blogosphere.”

People often point at Republicans who have made mistakes as a reason they don’t want to get involved. This isn’t a reason not to be conservative. Humans aren’t perfect; they let you down from time to time. Stick to the principles – principles don’t let you down.

No matter what the party, we have to call our legislators on what they do – then, the elections will take care of themselves.

We have to hold our legislators accountable. The way to hold them accountable is not to give them your vote. Start email threads to your friends about your thoughts, candidates. This will encourage them to respond and even forward your email on to others.

I got involved at a very young age… blogging was an outlet to express my thoughts and ideas.
