The Damaging Costs Of C(r)ap & Trade
by: Mike Proto | May 20
The Heritage Foundation has done an exhaustive analysis of the C(r)ap & Trade legislation being readied in the House. The Waxman-Markey bill [logically so-called for the bill's main sponsors, Henry "The Taxman" Waxman (CA) and Ed Markey (MA)], would have significant and drastic negative effects on our economy according to Heritage. Consider that Waxman-Markey by 2035 would:
Reduce aggregate gross domestic product (GDP) by $7.4 trillion, Destroy 844,000 jobs on average, with peak years seeing unemployment rise by over 1,900,000 jobs, Raise electricity rates 90 percent after adjusting for inflation, Raise inflation-adjusted gasoline prices by 74 percent, Raise residential natural gas prices by 55 percent, Raise an average family’s annual energy bill by $1,500, and Increase inflation-adjusted federal debt by 29 percent, or $33,400 additional federal debt per person, again after adjusting for inflation.
Sound like change you can believe in?

Mike P.:
The unstated premise behind all proposals such as Crap and Trade is that businessmen will come up with a way to continue to produce the products of industrial civilization even as the environmentalists strangle it to death. How do they propose for businessmen to produce when the Leftists make it impossible to produce? By one magical word: SOMEHOW.
They see all the wealth and goods of industrial civilization and assume that the goods will always be there, the same way you and I assume that the sun will always rise in the morning. They won’t - and they aren’t produced, if you look at every country that has implemented leftist policies. And the degree of the leftism is the degree of the poverty of those countries.
Even if the environmentalists were right about the science (they are not, but for the sake of argument assume they are), it would be a gross obscenity to impose a totalitarian dictatorship that makes industrial civilization impossible and thus pushes us back to material degredation. But that is what the Leftist/enviromentalists propose to do.
Only a condition of political and economic freedom allows man (and particularly, businessmen) to create solutions to human problems, including any (alleged) problem of global warming.

May 20th, 2009 at 5:54 pmThere is not such thing as man made global climate change. never has been. never will be.
It is the new age religion of the left, G-D or gaia for the G-Dless basically. Human beings are designed to believe in something greater then themselves. Normal people believe in G-D in his various great ways and faiths. Leftists and so called athiests believe in mother earf and he goddess GAIA.
