Chris Christie Clobbered At Second Debate
This is all you need to know about Chris Christie’s experience on the economy, taxes, job growth and all things fiscally conservative:
“I went to Law School because I really couldn’t do math or science.”
Whether it was said as a joke to the question he failed to answer, (one of many), or the truth, this quote is not unlike the John McCain quote weeks before the economy collapsed where McCain said “I know a lot less about economics then I do about Military and Foreign Policy issues. I still need to be educated.”
Both of these answers by these two Moderate Republicans really showcase their lack of some key essential knowledge both need to posses to not win, but be effective in their positions. McCain made this asinine quote, then the economy collapses and he joined with Democrats in voting for the TARP Financial Bailout Bill which pretty much ended the McCain campaign right then and there with that vote and lack of knowledge on the dominant issue of the campaign.
Now we have Christie who is proposing who is proposing all kinds of cuts and spending restrictions and red ribbon review panels, without releasing any details whatsoever on what is getting cut, how much the cuts will be, etc. Yet we are to believe that this man is the best candidate for the office of Governor who admitted math isn’t his strong suit. No wonder he won’t answer any questions with specific details.
His numbers won’t add up.

Have fun writing yourself in for Governor in November, Michael.
May 18th, 2009 at 9:58 amYou know Dino, the Lonegan people have given Christie credit for Tuesday, some might even argue that because expectations of him were so low and Lonegan’s were so hight that Christie won Tuesday night.
But you leftists Republicans are no different then any other liberals. Unable to look at anything objectively and admit when your side is not as a good as the other.
This will be why on June 2 most of you will be out on the street looking for work.
May 18th, 2009 at 10:04 amSteve Lonegan was a shrill, nasty, cheapshot artist throughout the debate and to Chris’s credit, he wouldn’t stoop to Steve’s level.
Christie, once again, stayed on message, attacking Corzine and the Democrats for their failures while occasionally nailing Lonegan for hiring illegal aliens to make signs for him and his willingness to relocate terrorists to New Jersey prisons in the event that Gitmo gets shut down.
Steve Lonegan engages in petty class warfare just as much as the left does and wants to punish the poor just as much as the Democrats want to punish the rich. It’s beyond absurd.
Steve is visibly getting more and more frustrated the more he tries to attack Chris unsuccessfully.
Thankfully, the slow motion train wreck known as the Lonegan for Governor campaign will become nothing more than a faded memory and yet another in a long line of Lonegan electoral failures in two more weeks.
May 18th, 2009 at 10:26 amBack in my day (haha), people used to try to hide their incompetencies, and focus on what they COULD do. But Christie seems to be really proud that he didn’t like math and science. It’s like the 3rd or 4th time that I hear him using that line, and it’s getting old. Me too, I failed quite bad at a few courses in high-school and college, but I don’t want anybody to know what they were!
May 18th, 2009 at 10:41 amDino:
WADR, how is attacking Lonegan over the illegal alien scrap not a cheap shot?
Honestly, Dino, you have lost all credibility. You’re not really interested in having a rational discussion. You are only interested in coming here to get a rise out of us.
Quite frankly, it’s not worth any of us taking the time to respond to you anymore.
May 18th, 2009 at 10:56 amMichael, you are probably one of the last people who should be criticizing Christie for not liking science or math? You certainly don’t have a doctorate, a law degree, or even an MBA. Do you even have a college degree?
May 18th, 2009 at 11:01 am“WADR, how is attacking Lonegan over the illegal alien scrap not a cheap shot?”
Since when is stating a fact throwing a cheapshot?
Steve Lonegan and his band of rodeo clowns here have repeatedly attempted to paint Chris Christie as a criminal with no proof or evidence whatsoever. That’s a cheapshot.
Hurling insults and backhanded remarks at Chris Christie during the debate before the moderator can ask the next question is a cheapshot and quite frankly, infantile.
Steve did infact, hire illegals to make his signs for him. He doesn’t even dispute it and had no rebuttal for it in the debate.
Furthermore, don’t talk to me about credibility on this three ring circus of a blog. Otherwise, you have absolutely no concept of what credibility is.
May 18th, 2009 at 11:28 amYou know, with two weeks to go there is zero point in continuing to discuss Christie policies or lack there of. He has zero chance of being elected Governor.
It is inargueable, historical FACT that every single NJGOP candiadte loses! And they lose badly, they have not been right since 1993 and have only come close once in the last decade and that was in 2000.
So it matters not what Chris Christie says he will do and not do, the fact is he will not be elected ever.
So the Republican Party in New Jersey has tow choices. Vote to try and finally win and vote for Steve Lonegan, or vote for four more years of John Corzine and nominate Chris Christie and just go through the motions like they always do. There is zero percent chance that Christie gets elected. And this is siimply reality, so continue to argue policies back and forth until your hearts content. It means absolutely nothing!
May 18th, 2009 at 11:36 amJason,
The fact that every GOP statewide candidate since Christie Whitman has lost, does not necessarily imply that Christie will lose. Your simplistic analysis relies on numerous assumptions / omissions, and the only thing that it really demonstrates is that you need to take a class in logic.
May 18th, 2009 at 11:51 amThose who do not study history are destined to repeat it.
The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and thinking you will get a different result.
I have no need to study anything, the above two quotes say it all. Now I may be wrong as to who said them, but I believe the first is Winston Churchill and the second is Einstein, but feel free to correct me on that one if I am wrong.
May 18th, 2009 at 11:55 amSince I’m in a good mood today, I’ll explain my previous comment. Simply stating that because “moderate” Republicans lost numerous elections in NJ, does not necessarily mean that a “conservative” candidate would have won when they have lost. Obviously, it is possible that a more conservative candidate could have won, but since there are so many factors that affect elections, it is to the best of my knowledge impossible to say definitively like Jason does that a conservative would have won when a moderate would have lost.
For example, I know a lot of people who agree with Lonegan on the issues, but won’t vote for him because he comes off as a douche bag. The conservative platform may be better than a more moderate one, but when you have a candidate like Lonegan, it seems unlikely that he would do better than a “moderate.”
Conservatives in New Jersey need to find a better messenger than Steve Lonegan. Otherwise, we are destined to have many more “moderate” candidates.
May 18th, 2009 at 12:01 pmJason,
I agree that those who do not study history are doomed to repeat it. But to study it, you have to understand it, and I don’t think you do.
May 18th, 2009 at 12:01 pmI have no idea who would have won Jeff, and neither do you because we have never tried an actual conservative that had support. Please do not throw Brett Schundler at me because after he won the primary he undermined himself by throwing all of his actual supporters to the curb and allowed the NJGOP to destroy him from within.
However, we DO know that every single liberal Republican continues to get clobbered. So just this once, why not try something different. That is what the 2nd quote means.
As for better conservative candidates. Steve Lonegan has stepped up, raised money, and put together this campaign with ZERO help from the so called party leadership. Total grassroots, no party bosses and virtually no big time endorsements, and no exhaulted county lines.
People are voting for Steve Lonegan in many cases because they are sick and tired of losing, and that is exactly what Chris Christie will do, LOSE! Can Steve Lonegan win? I think so, some do some do not. Nobody really knows, what we DO know is Christie will most certainly lose. This is what the first quote means.
Sometimes moderates do win, but only when they lie throguh their teeth and claim to be conservatives. AKA Chritie Whittman 1993.
May 18th, 2009 at 12:18 pmI disagree with Dino’s claim that Lonegan was handing out cheap shots. I think that he was asking Christie to explain his positions. He stated that Christie supports a progressive tax. He stated that CC has no real plan. (CC needs to make a red tape blah blah with his Lt Gov.) I agree with Jason. The moderate/liberal Republican message with only get trampled by the Democratic machine. To win in Nov, there has to be a strong conservative statement. If moderate republicans don’t like the message then they can join the Democratic party. This Bipartisan stuff is junk! Just as the world needs ying and yang so does the gov’t need liberals and conservatives! Hopefully they meet in the middle. To have a group of spenders in the middle just creates what we have here today.
I think CC is a blowhard and cannot believe anything he says.
SL at least has experience and a proven track record.
If you were to have these guys invest 100K of your money who would you have do it?

May 18th, 2009 at 7:21 pmMichael:
It was a knockout. Steve was quick to answer and to use every mistake made by Christie to his advantage. All Christie had were his memorized statements, “raise taxes on 70% of the people and 75% of retired people”.
“I am not a crook.” Richard M. Nixon
“I want you to listen to me. I’m going to say this again: I did not have sexual relations with that woman, Miss Lewinsky.” William J. Clinton
“Being in this country without proper documentation is not a crime”! Chris Christie, Conservative (?) Republican Candidate for Governor.
