Assembly Rumana MIA From BCYR Event
Assemblyman Scott Rumana was a no-show for a Bergen County Young Republican event intended to give members a chance to meet with District 40 candidates. Rumana – as previously reported – is being challenged by conservatives Joe Caruso and Anthony Rottino.
The event had been in the works for some time and for Rumana to bail does not speak well of him. His running mate David Russo had the fortitude to show up despite the presence of Caruso and Rottino at the meeting.
Here’s the story from PolitckerNJ:
HACKENSACK NJ May 14, 2009 –Assemblyman Scott Rumana skipped last night’s debate in Hackensack hosted by the Bergen County Young Republican Organization — again dodging a confrontation with his Republican Primary challengers Anthony Rottino and Joseph Caruso.
“It would have been a great opportunity for Scott to come and make the case for why he thinks he deserves re-election, but he chose not to show up. That’s unfortunate,” said Rottino.
“I would have loved to had a dialogue with Scott on his weak position on Low Income Housing mandates and on the condition of the state’s educational system. But it seems that wherever we go on the campaign trail, Rumana makes a point to go somewhere else.”
Rumana’s running mate Dave Russo showed up alone.
Caruso, who spoke about ways to improve the state’s economy, said he would have enjoyed the opportunity to compare his ideas with Rumana’s.
“The state’s economy is in crisis and yet Mr. Rumana has done nothing to address that issue. He is consumed with fighting for his county chairmanship over in Passaic, not with fighting for the people of District 40.” said Caruso.
Caruso said Rumana’s failure to show up last night is an insult to the Republicans in Bergen County.
“The Young Republicans went to a lot of effort to arrange this meeting and Scott Rumana did not have the courtesy to show up. That tells me Rumana does not want to debate. He does not want to discuss issues. All he wants to do is make ridiculous allegations that have no bearing on the taxpayers or the future of the Republican Party,” added Caruso.

Scott “RINO” Rumana is starting to show signs that he hears footsteps of Joe Caruso gaining ground on him.
Rumana will soon be MIA from somewhere else: The New Jersey Assembly!!
May 15th, 2009 at 6:59 pmI would like for someone to address a flyer by Rumana and Russo that says that one of their opponents is a slumlord and did not pay his property taxes. I cannot remember if the charge was against Caruso or Rottino. Is there any validity to this charge? I want to know because I want to vote for the conservative but this charge bothers me. I do not want to vote for someone who lacks ethics.
May 15th, 2009 at 8:08 pmAgain with the citing of press releases by the opposition Mike?
I’m sure this really was a “debate” too.
Not exactly a un-biased source.
BTW how much has Rottino donated to Democrats again?
May 15th, 2009 at 8:13 pmA,
I would take whatever Russo and Rumana say with a grain of salt. They are 2 very big RINO’s and would say anything to stay in office.
May 15th, 2009 at 8:33 pmThanks Michael, it was a really sleazy flyer.
May 15th, 2009 at 8:47 pmI’ll point to what gets my goat here Mike P.:
You wrote, “Here’s the story from PolitckerNJ”
Story? A press release is not a story, it is campaign spin.
Here’s a challenge for Illions:
Name something specific in voting records that make Rumana and Russo “RINO’s”.
This should be good…I can’t wait to see what Caruso gives you as an answer
May 15th, 2009 at 11:49 pmReally?:
Why didn’t Rumana show up at the BCYR meeting? I am a BCYR. They were asking for $10 to be at the meeting to meet the District 40 candidates. Those members deserved to see the person currently representing them and who is asking for their vote.
If Assemblyman Rumana had a good reason for being AWOL from the event he should say what it was. So far all I hear are crickets.
May 17th, 2009 at 3:42 amYou guys have to remember that noshow/nocall is Chris Christie’s idea, and Rumana is on that line is he not?
Remember folks, the left in the Republican party is afraid of the comnservatives. They only show up and debate when mandated to by law. Why should Christie’s down ballot be any different then he is.
May 19th, 2009 at 7:15 am[...] up for party values. When Rumana had a chance to meet with D-40 voters last week at a BCYR event, he didn’t show up. Now, this law suit raises the stakes that much [...]
