LIVE Coverage: Doherty vs. Karrow for State Senate
Voting is now beginning
3:00 Marcia Karrow is now speaking and is concentrating her speech on her background, growing up as a local resident and how she is a full-time legislator, and seems to be focusing on that as the dominant factor in why she should be elected, because she is a full-time legislator and how her constituents are her “passion”.
2:45 The nomination is underway for Marcia Karrow and then she will speak for up to 10 minutes.
2:40 Mike Doherty was nominated and seconded. He is now finishing his speech. He just received a rousing ovation for his statement about getting rid of COAH. In his speech, he talked about his accomplishments while a Freeholder and as a 4 term Assemblyman.
2:15 The registration has been completed and the convention is under way with a jammed pack and beautiful auditorium here in Clinton Township. This is certainly the political place to be today as the room is filled with politico’s from all across the State: candidates Richard Merkt and Steve Lonegan, State Senator Joe Pennacchio, (a Doherty supporter), Senate Minority Leader Tom Kean, Dick Zimmer, former Assemblyman Guy Gregg and others.
Right now, they are hearing the nominating speech, and someone is nominating Michael Doherty for State Senate, followed by a second and then Doherty will speak. That same process will follow for Marica Karrow and then they will break for a vote.
My early prediction is that Michael Doherty not only wins, but it is not as close as everyone things it will be.
