Former N.J. Gov. Tom Cane’s Sarah Palin

by: Michael Illions | October 21

I expected this crap to start AFTER the election. But no, some of the New Jersey Republican “elders”, the moderates, i.e.- the Establishment couldn’t even wait until after the polls close to start blaming Sarah Palin for John McCain’s performance in New Jersey:

With two polls released this morning showing Sen. Barack Obama leading Sen. John McCain in the Garden State by between 17 and 23 points, former Gov. Tom Kean acknowledged that winning this state is a long-shot, and that Vice-Presidential Sarah Palin hasn’t helped.

When McCain picked Palin as his running mate, New Jersey Republicans argued that the Alaska Governor, who was introduced to the public of the lower 49 states as a corruption-busting reformer in a state with a similarly corruption-plagued political system, would appeal to jaded New Jersey voters.

But Kean said that Palin was more of a trade off. While she’s exceedingly popular in other parts of the country, she hasn’t helped here.

“I don’t know whether it’s cultural, political or issue-oriented. She seems to not do well in places like New Jersey, New England and California, and very, very well when it comes to the Midwest in the south,” he said. “She probably hurts in New Jersey and helps in other states.”

Let me ask you this Governor, what part of Palin’s resume do you feel has hurt her in New Jersey? Is it her commitment to keeping the unborn alive, which you oppose, or perhaps it’s her taking on the establishment and making waves, an establishment which you are a part of.

Either way, you are way off base for laying this one at Governor Palin’s doorstep. The problem with the McCain campaign is Senator John McCain himself. His endorsing the Bush – Paulson bailout plan was a huge mistake.

The race, thanks to Sarah Palin, was tightening up all over the Country after Palin was chosen and accepted her place on the ticket. It was McCain’s race to blow apart, and he has done a pretty good job of doing that himself.

Now, thanks to “Joe the Plumber”, McCain has another chance to ride someone else’s coattails into the White House.

I was just coming to visit to share thoughts on why the NJ GOP will continue to lose ground during this election.

    – Failure to promote conservative leaders and primary candidates
    – Failure to propose conservative solutions to key issues for voters to consider and support.
    – Failure to develop and coordinate adequate local events, shared publicity and fundraising.

I’ll wager that despite the democrat-led financial ruin and political scandals, the GOP will continue to lose seats in Trenton and DC.

It could have been Palin’s inablity to show the country that she would be up to the task if McCain couldn’t fulfill his duties. Her negatives are now in the 40% bracket because she has been used as a pit bull in this ever increasing negative campaign. The American people are fed up with that, but it hasn’t stopped the republicans from going full steam ahead with comments like un-american vs. pro-american parts of the country, Obama is a socialist and anti-american, Pals around with terrorist, etc. Those kinds of comments have no place in our political discourse any longer. New Jersey is just ahead of the curve when it comes to turning off when that kind of rhetoric spews out from a candidate. And now you see how the rest of the republican party turns against Colin Powell for endorsing Obama. Can’t wait until the McCain camp starts calling him un-american, and “hey, what does he know”, or he’s just endorsing him because he’s black. Should start up any minute now….

Wow, ambro, I’m impressed. A comment that we can actually go back and fourth on that even has one or two good points.

Let’s start with Palin. I think we can agree, that her nomination turned the election around for a falling fast McCain.

We can agree that the Couric interview did not help her at all, due to the incredible coverage it received after the fact.

While the MSM forgets that Obama thinks we have 57 States and called a City in Missouri he was campaigning in, it’s own State, and of course the MANY gaffes by Biden, Palin has been railroaded out of town by the MSM, unfairly I might add.

I guess we agree to disagree with Palin’s “attacks” on Obama for citing his relationship with Ayers.

But as far as labeling him a Socialist, it is without a doubt accurate. His tax plan is socialist as is his world view.

    John Edwards 2004 VP candidate:
Empty suit ambulance chasing dirtbag trial lawyer with no experience other than one Senate term in which he accomplished absolutely nothing
    Media response: fellatial worship

Sarah Palin 2008: Executive experience as mayor and Governor, clearly more qualified than either Edwards was in 2004 or Obama is NOW for the office of PRESIDENT
    Media response: deranged psychopathic hatred

    I guess that’s a compliment Mikey…

Yes, for a time there, it did look like he turned it around with the Palin pick, but eventually, and of her own making, the people realized that she’s just not ready to lead in case something happens. And it could happen given McCain’s bouts with cancer, his days in prison and his age. Trust me, 72 does not look all that old to me…I’m not too far behind, but when you combne all the other factors, there’s a good possibility that he won’t end his term. And I’m really not trying to be sarcastic or snide with that remark, its just an observation.

As to the attacks, some are over the top and some are legitimate issues that mostly play to your base. They don’t sit too well with the rest of the voters because that’s not what they need to hear now. They want assurances that someone will come in and take the lead on the economy, the war and to restart our position as the number one country in the world, both militarily and economically, which has been sorely lacking the past 8 years. McCain has not gotten that message out since he’s been so intent on trying to bring Obama down. He doesn’t have enough time now.

It was a poor campaign tactic to just attack, with some issues thrown in for fun. Too many people are hurting to put up with that stuff any more.

And no one has gotten more bad press over gaffes than Joe Biden. They lie in wait for him to say something off the cuff, and he usually comes through, so I think that its an even playground in that respect. He certainly doesn’t get a pass, that’s for sure.

    Hey Ambrosia…

You claim Palin’s criticisms don’t sit well with the American people? But somehow when Obama’s campaign attacks/belittles Joe the Plumber or accuses people of clinging to their guns and bibles, I guess that’s just Obama talking about the issues. Sorry. I don’t buy the holier-than-thou bunk that comes out when Republicans play hardball and liberals whine. Not the same liberals who accused George Bush of being Hitler and sending our men and women off to war for a lie.

As for Biden’s gaffes getting press… dream on. I have liberal friends who watch SNL and think Sarah Palin is a complete goof. When I told them about some of Biden’s gaffes, they didn’t know any of them. Translation: media bias.

saw another obama negative ad calling mccain erratic not to mention all the ads airing for some strange reason on ny/nj tv with obama trying to tie mccain to bush and the whole “90% of the time” thing.

But yeah..his campaign isn’t negative at all..nope just McCain doing negative ads.

Obama is being treated with kid gloves by the media.

I’ve been involved with several organizations that do a fantastic job of building cost-effective grassroots organizations, recognizing leadership, and delivering transparent “Merit-based” promotions to higher levels.

I’ve seen none of this by the NJ GOP.

Economic interests, organizing, and fundraising are ridiculed and maligned, ignore critical sectors of our economy, and replaced by an increasing dependence on a once-in-a-generation messiah to save us from collapse. The NJ Chamber of Commerce is forced to align with the Democrats because they are ignored by the GOP.

Meanwhile, the democrats have legal ‘grassroots’ unions, legally extorted fundraising, effective multi-level organizations (‘machines’), and have established themselves as masters over vast sectors of our economy supported by massive streams of public funding. Public and agency employees have liberal use of their time for activism.

I notice the “SlateCard” at the top of this page has dreadful contribution rates. $275? Are you kidding me? That won’t even cover Website costs! Even in the Podcast with Michael Doherty, he wonders why conservatives can’t raise the money necessary to campaign.

If conservatives want to gain political power, they need to do more than rant at our failures. I don’t claim to have the answers, but obviously,… OBVIOUSLY,… what we are doing is “NOT WORKING”. And repeating the same process and expecting a different result is the definition of insanity.

So do something Sane – donate today to the conservative of your choice!
