NFL Sacks McCain

by: Michael Illions | April 01

The poor guy can’t buy a break:

The NFL announced today that the 2008 season will kick-off on Thursday, Sep. 4th — the same night McCain is set to accept the GOP nomination at the convention in the Twin Cities.

Per ESPN, the game will start 90 minutes earlier because of the convention.

But given that it pits the world champion New York Giants versus America’s team, the Washingotn Redskins, Republicans can’t be happy about what will inevitably distract attention from the penultimate night of their convention.

Of course, one could make the point that those who would watch a convention nomination speech wouldn’t be watching football to begin with, and vice versa.

Sorry Mike but I have to disagree, I am a huge Giants fan, but really want to watch the convention as well. I will utilize the great technology called Picture in Picture to watch both at the same time on the same TV. With having a huge TV the smaller picture is really like watching it on a 25 inch TV so it won’t be that bad.

I would have to disagree also…I am a big blue fan as well, and I watch all the conventions. I’m sorry that the networks don’t show the whole process. You would think that since the networks get their airtime from the Feds, that the least they could do is preempt some regular programming once every 4 years for 4 days and show the complete conventions.

And I would beg to differ on the moniker of “America’s Team”. Giant fans don’t like the Redskins…or the hated Cowboys…or the likewise hated Eagles. If they were playing it would be no contest as to what to watch, but since its the REAL America’s Team..the Red, White and Blue Giants playing, its a dilemma.

    Go Giants!

I definitely messed up the point I was trying to make, I didn’t mean, though it sounded like it, that if someone was following politics, they don’t have an interest in sports.

My point was that if one was going to watch the conventions, wouldn’t care that there was a football game on and vice versa.

I think this explains my point better ..

I plan on watching the convention, even though I am a big Giants fan.
