Halfacre Endorsed By NJTeaParty For NJ-12 Congressional GOP Primary
NJTeaParty has voted unanimously to support Mayor Michael Halfacre of Fair Haven, NJ for the Republican nomination in New Jersey’s 12th congressional district spanning Hunterdon, Mercer, Middlesex, Monmouth and Somerset Counties.
The decision was announced following a four-part vetting procedure established by the organization including research, written commitments by the candidate on 21 policy positions, an intensive two-hour hearing, and final review by the membership ending in a vote.
“We are proud to endorse Mayor Halfacre’s candidacy for the Republican nomination in the New Jersey 12th congressional district,” said Michael Illions, spokesman for the group. “We believe that he is the best candidate to defeat Congressman Rush Holt in November, 2010.”
Asked why Halfacre took the endorsement over GOP primary opponent Scott Sipprelle, Illions said the biggest factor was Sipprelle’s June 2009 donations to five Congressional Democrats who voted for legislation that the conservative organization opposes.
NJTeaParty is an association of the leaders of individual Tea Party organizations and other conservative organizations for the purpose of maximizing their collective influence.

Tea Parties need to be careful about endorsing people like Halfacre. The reason is that he has been a GOP political guy for over 10 years. He’s a lawyer who does work for municipalities so he’s been feeding off the system for a long time. Halfacre hasn’t shown he can stand up to the party if necessary. He supported Lonegan one week then supported Christie the next for political expediency.
The tea parties will start looking like arms of the Republican Party if they are not careful. The need to really vet out these establishment hacks before giving them support. My position was we do not endorse any candidate in the primary in 12.
Since then, David Corsi is looking like he will enter primary race. His positions, etc. are more in the spirit of the tea party. If he formally runs as a Republican, the tea party may have to revisit this race.
February 5th, 2010 at 2:08 pmHalfacre is a real estate lawyer who is a prosecutor in one or two towns..the idea that he’s “feeding off the system” is ridiculous. Breathe into a paper bag, man.
February 5th, 2010 at 2:23 pmLie #1:
When asked about his contribution to Schumer, Siprelle said his boss at Morgan Stanley made him do it, and he left Morgan Stanley as a result. Problem: He left Morgan Stanley in 1998 and opened “his own investment firm” according to his biography on his website. He made the donation in 2002, while working for himself.
Lie #2
When asked about his contributions to five Democrats in 2009, he said he “did it to influence the healthcare vote”. Problem: He made those donations in June, 2009, and the Healthcare bill wasn’t even introduced until July 14, 2009. He admits he gave political contributions to 1) influence a vote, and 2) Influence a vote on a non-existent bill.
Dodge #1
When asked to appear in front of the NJ Tea Party, he cancelled, as he was concerned about being treated uncivilly. Awwww “It’s also notable to mention that Scott Sipprelle has repeatedly refused to meet with representatives of tea party groups and conservative grassroots organizations.”
Dodge #2
When asked issue-specific questions by a reporter for US1, he avoided the questions with non-answers about being a “holistic candidate”.
Houston, we have a problem.
February 5th, 2010 at 2:29 pmHalfass is a loser and most voters don’t give a rats rear end for what a few inebriated kool-aid-spiked tea drinkers have to say about it.
Halfass needs to get out of the way so the party can unite behind Scott Sipprelle as the best chance to defeat Rush Holt. Sipprelle shouldn’t have to waste his resources defending himself against idiotic attacks from Halfass when those resources would be better used against Holt.
By staying in this race and dividing the party Halfass does nothing more than ensure the re-election of Rush Holt.
February 5th, 2010 at 2:32 pm“It’s also notable to mention that Scott Sipprelle has repeatedly refused to meet with representatives of tea party groups and conservative grassroots organizations.”
Good for him. It shows he has the good sense to avoid pandering to extremists. Sucking up to rightwing fringe groups is not going to help him defeat Rush Holt in a district that is heavily democratic.
February 5th, 2010 at 2:35 pmMillicent is right. Sipprelle would do the state a much bigger favor if he’d enter the Democratic primary against Holt and use his Wall Street money the way Corzine has used it in the past. I’m sure a lot of Dems will love him.
February 5th, 2010 at 2:57 pmAnyone who says tea party groups and conservative grass roots organizations are “rightwing fringe groups” better never try to “unite the party behind Scott Sipprelle [or anyone else]” by saying that s/he agrees with us on 80% of the issues.
Try to have the decency to say that you are opposed to us and that you do not want to unite with us. I know honesty is a rare thing in politics, but it really need not be.
February 5th, 2010 at 3:02 pmScott Sipprelle needs to stick his axlrod where the sun dont shine. If this idiot is ever elected the NJ taxpayer will only be left will MILLI CENTS.
February 5th, 2010 at 3:37 pmWe want our America back and at this moment in our history Halfacre is the whole 9 yards
Scott Sipprelle-another checkbook candidate. I wonder if the NJGOP will wise up this time.
February 5th, 2010 at 3:46 pmAny chance of a ‘Contract with America 2.0′ to be done that would give the less RINO inclined elements to rally behind? I know the punditry out there is leaning towards a lot of Republican wins, but I would have a lot more confidence if the party was actually running on some bold ideas.
February 5th, 2010 at 4:12 pmHell,
How about the following proposal that I posted here over a year ago?
http://www.gopusanj.com/wordpress/?p=4346
February 5th, 2010 at 4:16 pmWhat is wrong with you people!
Niether Halfacre or Sipperele are Conservatives.
They are LIBERALS! They both support abortion and Gay Marriage. Halfacre gave a bogus legal opinion to get the CUB scouts kicked out of the Fair haven Schools. Sipperelle donates to Democrats.
Halfacre worships John Bennett. Thats only the half of it with these two.
Corsi is the true conservative in the race.
February 5th, 2010 at 4:31 pmI am truly dissappointed by the Tea party. They have been conned.
Ed:
#4 will appeal to the Ron Paulist wing, but might be a bit hard to swallow (international commitments in Iraq, Pakistan, Israel, etc.).
As a small business guy (who may be out of business soon due to now being required to pay ‘prevailing wages’ per NJ law) I would like to see a flat tax with with replacing depreciation with expensing. The IRS has turned depreciation rules into a complicated mess. Just let business expense everything the first year (including property purchases). If there is a loss, let them carry it over for at least the next 20 years.
This would give a massive tax to anyone expanding a business. Especially cash strapped entrepreneurs starting up LLC, C-corps, S-Corps.
February 5th, 2010 at 5:18 pmI am working on Dave Corsi’s campaign. He has announced and was already interviewed by one of the papers. Dave Corsi is the ONLY qualified candidate for the race. This Tea Party group is premature – how do they know who is running?
Dave is the model Tea Party candidate. They need to re-consider.
February 5th, 2010 at 5:22 pmLet’s hear more about Dave Corsi. We need SOLID conservatives to run!
February 5th, 2010 at 5:37 pmDave was scheduled to speak at the CWA breakfast on Saturday, but it has been cancelled due to snow.
February 5th, 2010 at 5:40 pmGood for Dave Corsi. He and Halfass can divide up the crazies on the right wing while the mainstream party regulars stick with Sipprelle, who has the best chance to beat Holt in November.
February 5th, 2010 at 6:12 pmHereWeGoAgain – Halfacre was on school board in the 90’s then moved to town council. Those prosecutor jobs go to insiders only. I don’t care if its only a couple of towns. Halfacre needs to prove he can stand up to the party which is the main point you missed.
Since you seem to be his campaign manager, is he in the pension system? If he is not vested, was he in it during any of his public service>
February 5th, 2010 at 7:13 pmDave who?
February 5th, 2010 at 7:35 pmWhat party is he representing? Did he run before? How much money did he raise?
Here is some basic information about Dave Corsi:
Self employed real estate investor and property manager
VP NJ Assoc of Real Estate Professionals
Past Radio Host “Let’s Talk Real Estate”
Tax Reform via Fair Tax – former coordinator of Fair Tax
Pro-Life
Free Market, small government, fiscally responsible
2nd Amendment
Term Limits
Accessible- he is one of us
The only REAL Conservative in the 12th Primary
Dave is a good debater and will be a strong opponent to Rush Holt
He is working on a new web site and will have articles and graphics available when it is released.
February 5th, 2010 at 9:55 pm“The only REAL Conservative in the 12th Primary”
That’s great. He and Halfass will split the wingnut vote so Sipprelle gets in.
February 5th, 2010 at 10:16 pmLet me start by saying, If believing in the US Constitution and the Founding fathers makes me a right wing crazy, then so be it and I wear it proudly
There are many things in here I could comment on but I’ll try to bring it down to two and that should pretty much cover this whole debate. Actually 3 but i opened with the first one already
“I am truly disappointed by the Tea party. They have been conned.”
Let me say that the Particular Tea Party that announced their support for 1/2acre is not from D-13 and I myself have had a big debate with the individual self appointed leader of this the “North New Jersey T P” group. This man and this individual group on a few levels has no right to make any public claim of his and their support for 1/2acre. The most obvious is the fact that they are not located in the district 1/2acre is running for. 2ND there are 3 Tea parties in this district, one of which covers in part D 13 and another district all together. There is no one from these 3 Tea Parties that has endorsed their support for any candidate and as far as I know, no one has agreed to endorse anyone. If and when that day does come, we will be together in this so very important decision as to not mess it up. As for any tea party out side of this district, we prefer they keep their thoughts to them self. And when we the people of D 13 decide who we want as a candidate, we expect ALL other Tea Parties to respect our decision and support who we decide.
In the words of the Great One,
February 5th, 2010 at 10:49 pmTHANK ME!
Let me correct one thing if I may, D 12 for Congress, we are D 13 in the NJ Legislature sorry for the confusion.
Thank me any how
Oh and hey Rushy baby if yer reading this.. pack yer stuff, I’ll help you carry it to the curb
February 5th, 2010 at 11:15 pmCONSERVATIVE, I dont know where you’re getting your information but Halfacre is not pro-gay marriage, the board he worked for never “kicked out” any Scouts, because Halfacre advised them not to, and he has said on numerous occasions he is personally against abortion and favors strong restictions like parental notification.
February 6th, 2010 at 1:05 amHalfacre is not pro choice. He has a very thoughtful response to the question that clealry has him on the side of Life.
And while we are debunking lies, where on earth did you get the gay marriage stuff? I have heard Halfacre laugh out loud at the question, and say it’s a “no brainer”: marriage is between a Man and a Woman.
The tea party coalition endorsed him after hearing these answers, and there are some strong pro-life and traditional marriage types among the dozen or so members we have.
